A vape coil is a key element to any vape. It is the part that is responsible for heating up your e-liquid and turning into the vapour that you inhale. It is found inside the tank, and is composed of a coiled metal wire or piece of mesh that is wrapped in an absorbent material which is commonly cotton. When a vape tank or replacement pod is filled with e-liquid, the cotton wicking will soak it up. Once absorbed, the metal wire is heated up by the battery which helps to vaporise the e-liquid. After this, you simply take a drag and inhale some delicious flavour.

Depending on how many wraps of wire the vape coil has, the higher or lower the resistance will be. Replacement coils of a lower resistance produce larger clouds of vapour, otherwise known as sub-ohm vaping. Coils with a greater resistance produce less, more cool vapour and are often vapoured by those who are ex-smokers.

When looking at the vape coils that we stock here at Dr Vapes, some key vendors steal the spotlight. Smok are no strangers to producing excellent vape products, and their replacement coils are no different. If you're in need of some next level sub-ohm mesh coils then look no further than Smok. The Smok RPM coils mesh coils provide fantastic vapour whilst keeping tonnes of flavour for an overall enjoyable vape experience. We also stock Smok Nord Coils to be used with your Smok Nord vaping device.

For those out there are all about excellent flavour and impressive vapour production, check out Vaporesso GTX coils. These coils from Vaporesso are highly compatible, able to be used with a range of different vape kits from Vaporesso. For example, this replacement mesh coil can be used with the highly popular Vaporesso Swag PX80 kit to provide a vaping experience that few other vape kits can compete with. It is available in a range of different ohms from 0.15 ohm up to 1.2 ohms making it fantastic for DTL, restricted DTL and MTL vaping.

From Voopoo, we bring you the highly popular Voopoo PNP coils. These replacement coils are packed with flavour potential and are highly versatile. Featuring either single mesh coils or ceramic coils, the Voopoo PNP coils are able to withstand higher wattages for an excellent DL vape.

Uwell are known for creating top quality vapes, and this is no less true for their hardware. The Uwell 3 Valyrian Replacement Coils are also a big hit amongst sub-ohm vapers. The Caliburn G and KOKO Prime Coils are made for smooth MTL vaping in your vape's pods.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of coil is best for MTL vaping?

MTL (mouth-to-lung) is more commonly favoured by ex-smokers and those who are looking for more flavour than vapour production. High resistance coils are best for MTL vaping as the coils vaporise the e-liquid at a cooler temperature which creates less vapour which is more akin to the drag of a cigarette. As such, it is best to pair these coils with 50/50 e-liquids or e-liquids with a higher PG content such as nicotine salts.

What type of coil is best for direct-to-lung vaping?

Low resistance coils, otherwise known as sub-ohm coils are best for direct lung vaping. Sub-ohm coils have a resistance that is below 1.0 ohms, and because of this lower resistance they create much larger clouds of vapour. The lower the ohms, the larger the cloud. However, the trade-off is that the flavour weakens the lower the resistance which is worth bearing in mind if you're more of a flavour chaser.

Mesh coils are widely considered to be the best choice for those who are seeking a direct-lung vaping experience due to the wider surface, allowing it to heat up more e-liquid. We recommend using an e-juice with a higher VG content with sub-ohm coils. A VG percentage of above 70% is ideal.

How long do vape coils last?

This is dependent on how frequently the vape is used, however on average most coils should last a week or two.

How do I know when it's time to replace my vape coil?

Knowing when it's time for a replacement can be hard to spot, but there are a few tell-tale signs that time to replace your vape coils. It's important to note that it doesn't matter what vape coil you use, they will all need replacing at some point. Some will last longer than others, but there's a variety of factors that can play into this such as how frequently you vape and the wattage at which you vape at.

Burnt Taste

If you are starting to notice a burnt taste, it's time for a new coil. This is the most common sign that a replacement coil is required, and can also be quite unpleasant.

Leaking vape

A leaking vape may be a sign that your vape is in dire need of a replacement coil. If you notice a leak, inspect your vape to see if you can identify the cause as it could be occurring for a number of reasons. If you aren't able to identify the cause with ease, then try a coil replacement.

Little vapour production

When your vape begins producing little vapour, it can mean that the coil is passed its best. Ensure that your device is not low of charge, and if this isn't the case, it's time for a replacement coil. This visual indication is one of the more obvious ways of telling that your vape coil is used up.

Vape is producing weak flavour

As your atomiser coil is nearing the end of its life. the flavour will begin to weaken and dilute which is a sign that a vape coil replacement is needed.

Vape device is creating a gurgling sound

If you notice a gurgling or bubbling sound coming from your vape when you take a drag, take this as your vape telling you it needs a replacement.

What is an ohm?

An ohm is the unit of measurement to describe a material's resistance to the flow of current passing through it. Vape coils come in a variety of different resistances, which is measured in ohms. The higher the ohms, the higher resistance which means the vape will produce less vapour. This is often referred to as plus ohm. The lower the ohms, the lower the resistance. which you will see referred to as sub-ohm.

Can I use any coil in my vape?

The type of coil you need will be dependent on the type of vape kit and brand that you are using. This is because different tanks require specific types of atomiser coils. There isn't a universally compatible coil that works with all electronic cigarettes. If you're a new vaper, we recommend taking some time to learn what coils are compatible with your tank.
