Vaping FAQs

What is vaping?

Vaping is an alternative to smoking, which doesn’t involve the tar or combustion involved in smoking tobacco.

A vaping device, also known as a vape, electronic cigarette, e-cigarette, or e-cig, contains these main components:

  1. The battery device. Some e-cigarettes have built-in batteries that are charged via USB, others have batteries which can be removed and recharged with a specialist charger
  2. The clearomiser or tank (which holds the e-liquid). This is usually made of glass or plastic
  3. The coil
  4. The e-liquid which is held in the tank

The battery heats up the coil inside the tank, which vaporises the e-juice. Vapers then inhale the vapour.

Can vaping e-cigarettes help me quit smoking?

Vaping is far healthier than smoking traditional cigarettes because instead of inhaling smoke you're inhaling vapour. According to the NHS, vaping has helped many people in the UK quit smoking regular cigarettes. Public Health England estimates that in 2017 over 50,000 people stopped smoking with the help of a vaping product

How much will it cost me to switch to vaping?

The set up costs for a starter kit will vary depending on the type of electronic cigarette setup you chose. After that, the running costs would be for e-liquid to refill your tank, and replacement e-cigarette coils. Coils will usually last approximately two weeks, depending on the type, and cost just a few pounds each. We will be able to help you choose the best type of device for your needs, and guide you through choosing the best liquids to get you started.

Switching from smoking 20 regular cigarettes per day to e-cigarette vaping could save up to £3350 per year.

What is in Dr. Vapes E-liquid?

Our award-winning e-liquid contains: propylene glycol, vegetable glycerine, flavourings and nicotine (when specified). What goes into e-liquids made in the UK is heavily regulated, and we only sell products of the highest quality which comply with current regulations.

What are the types of e-liquid that Dr Vapes offers?

At Dr Vapes we offer a few different types of e-juice for different vaping experiences.

Freebase nicotine e-liquids are the traditional type of vape juice and they come in various nicotine strengths.

Shortfills are nicotine free e-liquids that come with space at the top of the bottle to add your own nicotine shot.

Nic salts, also called nicotine salts or salt nic, are another type of e-liquid that combine benzoic acid with nicotine to neutralise the alkaline nicotine and provide a milder throat hit. Nic salts are great for former smokers of traditional cigarettes because they provide a faster nicotine hit.

Longfills have 14ml nicotine-free e-liquid in a 60ml bottle so you can add your base and mix the strength as desired.

What are propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine ratios?

You may have come across the terms PG and VG - these refer to the two main ingredients in vape juice: propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG).

Propylene glycol is an odourless and flavourless liquid. It is thin and carries the flavour of the vape juice. It is also found in deodorants and cosmetics.

Vegetable glycerine is a thicker and slightly sweet liquid that allows larger vapour production. It creates the big clouds that many vapers love. It is also found in toothpaste and food flavourings.

Vape juices will contain different ratios of PG and VG. The most common ratio is a 50% split of the two.

High PG e-liquids are good if you enjoy a vaping experience with a strong throat hit like smoking regular cigarettes and lots of flavour.

High VG e-liquids are better for creating big clouds and milder throat hits, but because they are more viscous they require more energy to vaporise. This means that they are often used in sub-ohm vaping in sub-ohm tanks.

Are there different types of vaping?

There are two types of vaping - Mouth-to-lung (MTL) and direct-to-lung (DTL). MTL is similar to how you would smoke a cigarette whilst DL resembles smoking shisha.

Which style of vaping you choose is up to you. On the whole, MTL vaping is better for beginners while DTL vaping is favoured by more advanced vapers. Moreover, different types of vapes are better for MTL or DTL vaping. For example, disposable vapes and vape pens are great for MTL vaping, but box mods and sub-ohm vape kits are better for DTL vaping.

Is my product authentic?

All the products sold on the Dr. Vapes website are 100% authentic. If your e-liquid bottle has a scratch and check label on it, it can be checked here.

For hardware, most brands that we distribute also have a scratch-off verification code (sometimes called "Scratch & Verify") which you can use to verify that products from our website are genuine. It's not a legal requirement, therefore not all products have the code.

Why is e-liquid coming out of the tank and going in my mouth?

If the coil is over saturated the excess e-liquid within the atomiser may flood the tank and you could end up with droplets of liquid on your lips or in your mouth. If you get e-liquid in your mouth, it is advised to rinse your mouth out with plenty of water.

Do e-cigarettes and e-liquids produce a smell?

Yes, the vapour can leave a small amount of smell depending on the e-liquid and type of device. Some smells can be pleasant to you but not to others, so please take this into consideration if you are using the electronic cigarette in confined spaces.
